The Packers Had A Field Goal Blocked On A Play Where The Falcons Only Had 10 Players On Defense

The Packers fell victim to an embarrassing loss on home turf on Thursday night when the Falcons cruised to a 35-14 win at Lambeau Field. It was a fairly tight contest until Atlanta blocked a field goal in the first half, and they managed to snuff out the attempt even though a member of the special teams unit seemingly forgot to take the field.

The Falcons looked like one of the worst teams in the NFL while kicking off the season with an 0-2 start. Atlanta was outscored 54-16 in their first two contests, and they failed to run a single play from the red zone in either of their losses to the Steelers and the Panthers (just the fourth team to check that dubious box since 1978).

As a result, it made sense that the Packers were listed as favorites when they hosted them on Thursday night. Green Bay headed into the contest coming off a win over the Jets that snapped a five-game losing streak stretching back to last season, and the fans who headed to Lambeau Field were hoping to see them improve to 2-1.

However, that did not end up being the case, as Atlanta notched its first victory in a pretty decisive manner as the Packers ended up on the wrong end of a 35-14 result. The losing team will have plenty of things to address with the panic button on the verge of being pressed just three weeks into the campaign, and that certainly includes a worrying special teams play.

The Falcons only had 10 players on the field when they blocked a field goal against the Packers

Thursday night’s game was a pretty even contest during the bulk of the first half, as the Packers had the chance to knot things up at 10 points apiece when Trey Smack trotted out to attempt a 47-yard field goal with just under four minutes to go in the first half.

However, the attempt was blocked by Zach Harrison, who surged through the middle of the offensive line and batted the ball down.

The Falcons took advantage by scoring a touchdown before heading into the locker room with a 17-7 lead, and they never looked back while padding that margin in the second half.

It was a pretty rough look for the guys who were tasked with blocking, and it got even worse when you consider Atlanta only had ten guys on the field at the time.

Based on the unit the Falcons normally send out, it would appear C.J. Henderson was the man who was missing, but his absence didn’t end up being an issue.
