Week 6 of this year’s NFL season will officially wrap up when the Chargers and the Broncos face off on Monday Night Football, and by now, we’ve reached a point where it’s pretty easy to tell which teams look like bonafide contenders as well as rule out more than a few franchises who don’t really have anything to look forward to aside from bringing their season to a merciful end in December.
Of course, there’s always a chance things could change. However, based on the current state of the league, the New York Giants appear to be Officially Back after kicking off the current campaign with a 5-1 record, making them one of the four teams that have managed to rack up at least five wins (which, unfortunately for them, includes an undefeated Eagles squad that currently sits at the top of the NFC East).
The turnaround is a very welcome change for a fanbase that hasn’t seen their team sniff the playoffs since 2016. While many supporters are still being cautiously optimistic in order to avoid being subjected to even more pain stemming from a possible collapse, Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley, and the rest of the roster has given them plenty of reasons to be hopeful so far.
However, there’s one group of people that apparently haven’t bought in: the oddsmakers at multiple sportsbooks who listed the Giants as 2.5-point underdogs when the betting lines for their Week 7 showdown with the Jaguars opened up on Sunday night—and it’s safe to say fans of the boys in blue aren’t thrilled.
Giants fans are very salty after sportsbooks listed the Jaguars as favorites in Week 7
Jacksonville opened up the season with a 2-1 record, but they’ve fallen to 2-4 thanks to a three-game losing streak at the hands of the Eagles, Texans, and Colts (the last of whom they managed to shut out in Week 2 before Indianapolis got revenge with a 34-27 win on Sunday).
Trevor Lawrence has shown some signs of improvement and the team as a whole has shown some flashes of potential. However, the fact that the Jaguars opened as favorites against the Giants is somewhat surprising—and plenty of New York fans have seized on the chance to embrace the underdog label—including many who’ve accused the powers that be of disrespecting a team that will likely come into the contest with a bit of chip on its shoulder.
#Jaguars are listed as a 3-point favorite over #Giants. Disrespect!

The 2-4 Jaguars who have lost 3 straight are favored by 3 against the Giants next week….. Regardless of the outcome thats disrespect.

The Giants are seriously STILL underdogs against the Jaguars?? 3-point underdogs against the Jags after beating the Packers AND Ravens?!
I kinda like it this way — keep doubting us #NYG

As Giants beat writer Art Stapleton notes, this isn’t necessarily anything new for a Giants squad that’s headed into all but one of its games as the underdog this year.
The 5-1 #Giants open as 2.5-point underdogs on the road at the 2-4 Jaguars this Sunday, per @tipico.
The Giants have been underdogs at kickoff for all but one of their games this season (Chicago).

However, that doesn’t make it any less baffling.
