Flau’jae Johnson just wrapped up Year 3 at LSU after leading the Tigers to the Elite Eight this March. The guard provided an update on her future in Baton Rouge this week.
She did so on her podcast, Best of Both Worlds, before getting cryptic with her following on social media.
Johnson has been a star at LSU in each of her three seasons. A former 4-star prospect, she signed with the Tigers out of Georgia in 2022.
She’s averaged double-digit scoring totals each year with the program. As a junior, she set a career-high with 18.9 points per night to go along with 5.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
That production earned her All-America honors. She also landed All-SEC recognition. Some wondered if she’d leverage that success into a new opportunity via the transfer portal. She denied those rumors.
“I want to graduate at LSU. I already knew I wasn’t going to go to the WNBA Draft. I was just like, ‘Let me see what’s up…’ I knew there were some interesting offers. But I talked to Coach Mulkey, and we had a real conversation. I told her some real stuff about how I’ve been feeling. I think that conversation really helped us see what we both see and how I can make this year my best year.”

That would seem to be good news for LSU amid the speculation, but social media activity by Johnson and her mom started whispers once again.

She posted photos to both X and Instagram with the caption, “4 Out.” She also teased a major announcement. The internet attempted to decipher the message.
“Please be a new jersey number,” wrote one follower. “What do you mean, ‘out?'” asked another.
Some suggested she was simply saying goodbye to her junior year. Some insisted that it referenced her four teammates currently in the transfer portal.
Johnson’s mom and manager, Kia Brooks, reposted the message to her Instagram story without any further context. There seem more questions than answers at this point.
Flau’jae Johnson is not in the transfer portal at the time of this writing. She’s on record saying there is no plan to leave LSU. Still, her fans are worried following her latest social media activity. We should know more when her “major announcement” is made public.

Johnson’s announcement was not basketball related. It has no impact on her playing career. She is going on tour!
Along with being a star on the basketball court, Johnson is an aspiring rapper. Her major news involves another career path altogether.
With that said, it may not ease the worries sparked by that “4 out” post. Still, it would seem to be a positive given the announcement was not related to a transfer.
