The LSU women’s basketball team recently lost to SEC rival South Carolina in a matchup of Top 10 powers. Flau’jae Johnson’s mom says it was not her daughter’s fault.
She insulted her Tiger teammates in a bizarre rant in which she attempted to cope with the setback. Johnson may have lost on the court, but she’s winning “real life.”
Johnson is one of women’s basketball’s college stars. The senior guard is averaging 14.1 points per game to lead the LSU lineup.
She showed out in a matchup with the Gamecocks last Saturday. Johnson scored 21 points on 50% shooting. She fell two rebounds shy of a double-double.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to get the win. The Tigers lost, 79-72. Johnson is still winless against the Gamecocks, who have won 17 straight in the series.
That bothers Flau’jae Johnson’s mom, even though she says it doesn’t.

WILD: The mother of college basketball player Flau’jae reacts to her daughter’s loss to Dawn Staley and South Carolina, saying that Flau’jae is “beating South Carolina in real life.” She also states that her daughter was the best player on the court despite the loss and believes… pic.twitter.com/afOTshLcoQ

Kia Brooks is Johnson’s mom and manager. She took to social media to address the recent loss to South Carolina. She attempted to prop up her daughter. Instead, she put down her teammates.
“We have never beat South Carolina,” Brooks said. “Cool, but Flau’jae is beating South Carolina in real life… The goal is to go to the WNBA and get a bag…
“Even in basketball, she is beating (the Gamecocks) on the floor. Look at the stats… Let’s keep it real. No South Carolina player is going before Flau’jae in the draft. South Carolina didn’t beat Flau’jae. South Carolina beat LSU.“
Essentially, she is saying Flau’jae and her stardom are more important than the team. LSU lost despite Johnson’s success. Her teammates are bad.
The three-minute rant continued to push that message.
“We have not beat South Carolina. They play together… but my daughter is beating them in real life. She’s going Top 5 in the draft. Flau’jae was the best player on the court… She carried that game. She did what she was supposed to do… We still lost. But are we losing in real life?”
The family has a longstanding beef with the South Carolina program. Johnson blasted the program’s DJ for ‘nasty behavior’ related to her father’s death.
Her brother was also arrested for rushing onto the court to join a fight between the two teams during an SEC Tournament game.

Clearly there is still animosity. Her daughter’s inability to beat her rival is weighing on Kia Brooks. Losing is not Flau’jae Johnson’s fault. Her teammates are the ones holding her back.
