Flavor Flav is stepping up to make sure that the United States women’s water polo team can compete in the Paris Olympic Games this summer. He is bankrolling their entire trip!

It is an awesome, unexpected gesture that came together as a result of a plea on Instagram.

Maggie Steffens, the 30-year-old captain of the 2024 U.S. women’s team, asked for financial support in a post on May 4. She explained that while USA Water Polo and the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee help to fund the team and its travels, they need additional support from donors. Many of the athletes also work multiple jobs to make ends meet!

In a surprising twist, it was the founding member of Public Enemy who stepped up. Flavor Flav saw Steffens’ post and was inspired. He promised to do whatever it takes to make sure that United States women’s water polo can not only make the trip to Paris, but have what they need when the get there!

AYYY YOOO,,, as a girl dad and supporter of all women’s sports – imma personally sponsor you my girl,,, whatever you need. And imma sponsor the whole team. My manager is in touch with your agent and imma use all my relationships and resources to help all y’all even more. That’s a FLAVOR FLAV promise.

Steffens, a three-time gold medalist, was in shock. She and her teammates couldn’t be more grateful!

U.S. women’s water polo has been dominant in recent history. The Stars and Stripes won gold in 2012, 2016 and 2020. They are expected to go back-to-back-to-back-to-back with a win again this summer. Anything short of the podium at the Olympics would be an extreme disappointment. Bronze or Silver, while still admirable, would be a bummer.

Flavor Flav is going to be rooting hard for the team that he now sponsors. It is going to be a lot of fun to watch the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer discover a new sport in real-time on the biggest-possible stage.

No matter when the women enter the pool, Flavor Flav will be watching. He has shown to be a faithful fan in the past (he’s a huge Swiftie) and will have a vested interest in U.S. women’s water polo!
