Miami Carol City was kicked out of the high school football playoffs in Florida after an ugly brawl. The Chiefs are expected to submit an appeal and/or take their case to the courts if they are not reinstated.
However, as things currently stand, one of the top programs in the state won’t be allowed to compete in the postseason.
This ruling has serious implications on the landscape of high school football in the Sunshine State. It could get litigious.
Miami Carol City got into a nasty brawl with Grayson.
Two of the best football teams in the southeastern United States played each other in Georgia on Friday when Miami Carol City Senior High School traveled ~650 miles north to play Grayson High School. Both programs are ranked in the top-20 in their respective states and in the top-100 overall. It was a huge game between two national title contenders. It lived up to the hype.
A true defensive battle went down to the wire. The Rams took an early 10-0 lead but the Chiefs fought back to get within one.
Carol City had a chance to win the game with under 30 seconds remaining and lined up for a field goal that did not get past the line of scrimmage. However, multiple penalty flags kept the drive alive.

The Chiefs were backed up closer to midfield and tried to get in the end zone. They failed to score on the final play of the game.

Grayson won the game 10-9. What happened next was unfortunate.
A high school football brawl resulted in a postseason ban.
What started out as some initial pushing and shoving in the handshake line very quickly turned violent. Punches started flying. Multiple players from both teams were involved in the brawl. A group of Miami Carol City players (including University of Georgia linebacker commit Temorris Campbell Jr) at one point ganged up on a Grayson player who was lying on the ground.
You can watch the incident unfold in real time here. It was ugly.
The Florida High School Athletic Association and the Georgia High School Association released a joint statement.
“The conduct displayed during the recent incident is unacceptable and does not reflect the values of education-based athletics. Both associations maintain a zero-tolerance stance toward altercations, bench-clearing incidents, and any actions that escalate into or create the appearance of a brawl. Such behavior undermines the educational mission of interscholastic athletics and jeopardizes the safety and well-being of participants, coaches, officials, and spectators.”
They vowed to take action accordingly.
“The FHSAA and GHSA are each conducting a thorough review of the incident in accordance with their respective rules, policies, and procedures. Upon completion of those reviews, each association will take appropriate action regarding its member school(s) and any individuals found to have violated association bylaws, policies, or expectations of conduct.”
The GHSA ultimately decided to suspend four players from Grayson High School for one game. The names were not released but the four plays will miss Friday’s region opener against crosstown rival Archer.
Miami Carol City received a much harsher punishment. Four players are suspended for the rest of the season, nine players are suspended for five games and two players are suspended for one game. Not only are the 15 unnamed players suspended, the entire program was placed on Restrictive Probation and will be barred from postseason competition for the 2026-27 school year. They must also pay a fine of $100 for each player that is suspended, totaling $1,5000.
The Chiefs were expected to compete for a state championship. As of now, they won’t be allowed in the playoffs.
Carol City plans to appeal the penalties. It is scheduled to play Miami Northwestern, another top team in Florida, on Friday.
