Florida defensive back Marco Wilson’s bonehead play on Saturday night may have not only cost the team their game against LSU but also an opportunity to make the playoffs.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Florida Gators stopped LSU on third down and the Tigers were more than likely going to punt the ball. For whatever reason Wilson grabbed an LSU player’s shoe from the ground and threw it down the field after the play.
LSU was going to have to punt and then a Florida player threw this shoe. May have killed their playoff chances. One of the dumbest plays I’ve ever seen. pic.twitter.com/wIsllDFvQr

The Gators were penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct which allowed LSU to get a first down and kick a game-winning field goal minutes later.

Florida fans were obviously not happy with Wilson after the game.
we lost a game because Marco Wilson threw an LSU player's shoe twenty yards downfield

The Elijah Moore leg lift to lose the 2019 Egg Bowl was immortally stupid — but it didn't change the course of the College Football Playoff. Marco Wilson upped the stakes.

That was the dumbest penalty ever for @GatorsFB
Dumb!
Why throw a players shoe after the play? You were about to get off the field and get the ball back.
If they lose no #CFP
With 2 losses and you still have to beat #Bama…🤔😂#MarcoWilson will regret that for a long time.— Carl Dukes (@putemupcdukes) December 13, 2020
Imagine going to bed tonight knowing you cost your team a chance of maybe making the playoffs. All because you wanted to throw a cleat down the field. For no reason at all. @GatorsFB @NCAAFootball #MarcoWilson
