A High School Football Coach Was Forced To Resign After His Own Principal Got Mad At Him For Running Up The Score

As a 6’10” guy, I was essentially required to play basketball when I was in high school and my team usually managed to hold its own against the other squads in our conference with the exception of one powerhouse of a program that managed to wipe the floor with us every single time we faced off against each other.

The school in question was located in a pretty large town with a talent pool filled with kids who could drain long threes and pull of alley-oops with ease, and while I’d like to tell you we put up a solid fight whenever we played them, we’d already resigned ourselves to our fate before running out onto the court.

Sure, nobody likes to get blown out but I’d argue getting hit in the face with some humble pie every once in a while is a pretty valuable learning experience. However, it appears there are some people at a high school in Arizona who don’t feel the same way.

According to ABC15,  Devin Dourisseau and his La Joya Community High School Lobos had their homecoming game last week and put on quite the performance, as they came away with a 60-0 victory over Copper Canyon High.

While the win alone isn’t particularly newsworthy, the same can’t be said for the events that followed it, as the Lobos found themselves without a coach this week after Dourisseau was accused of running up the score….by his very own principal.

The outlet reports the coach was approached by Stacie Almaraz during the third quarter and was asked to “dial it down.” Unfortunately for him, his players had the nerve to perform to the best of their ability and it’s safe to say Almaraz was not pleased.

Dourisseau reportedly met with the administrators a few times before ultimately deciding to step down from his position on Monday—a decision he apparently regretted, as he withdrew his reservation the very next day (he’s yet to be officially reinstated).

When asked about the rout, Dourisseau didn’t seem to have any regrets, saying:

“I’m not gonna stop my boys from playing hard.

These boys are trying to get scholarships. I’m going to coach my kids to the best of their abilities and I’m not going to have them back down or lay down simply because the team that were playing is not 100% up to the task.”

That’s the kind of guy you want in your corner as a player. It’s a damn shame the school wasn’t in his.
