The Korn Ferry Tour has produced some of the best golf of any professional tour so far this year. Just last week, 15-year-old Miles Russell fired off 7 birdies in 10 holes a few miles from my house here in SW Florida and became the youngest player to ever make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour and then went on to finish t20th!

Back in February, Cristobal Del Solar shot a 57 at the the Korn Ferry Tour‘s Astara Golf Championship in Bogota, Colombia, the lowest score ever recorded. Today, former Bama and FGCU golfer Frankie Capan III went into the par-5 18th hole with the chance to break that record of 57.

If he had eagle’d the hole he would have shot a Korn Ferry Record 56. Alas, he par’d the 18th after hitting his drive into a fairway bunker and then turned in a scorecard of 58, one stroke off the all-time Korn Ferry Tour scoring record, and his scorecard looks like me playing video games back in the day when Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 was all we’d play on Xbox. With the 58, he also broke Scottie Scheffler’s course record of 59 there! Take that, Scottie.

Spoiler alert, he did:

Imagine telling someone before their round that they would only make 5 pars that day and what that would do to their nerves. Nobody ever imagines they’re going out and scoring below par on 13 of the 18 holes.

By the way, he hit 17 of 18 Greens in Regulation (94.44%). He was 100% in scrambling because the only GIR he failed to record was 18 where he par’d the hole for 58.

Frankie Capan III averaged only 1.29 putts per hole and had 11 birdies and 1 eagle. His longest drive of the day? A massive 373-yard drive. He also hit 11 of 14 fairways (78.57%) while putting on a clinic.

You’d think with a score of 58 that Frankie Capan III would have a MASSIVE lead over the field, right? Wrong. Another player shot 61 so Frankie holds just a 3-shot lead over the field at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Veritex Bank Championship in Arlington, Texas.
