Gamecocks Danced On Kentucky’s Grave While Swiping Wildcats ‘College Gameday’ Thunder

The South Carolina Gamecocks looked like a completely different team in Week 2 following a close call with Old Dominion in the season opener.

After barely escaping with a home victory against the Monarchs, the Gamecocks opened SEC play with a matchup in Lexington.

Most expected a one-sided affair that favored the Kentucky Wildcats. Entering as a 10-point home favorite, fans were ready for Mark Stoops’ bunch to make a statement.

A win could’ve allowed for an undefeated Kentucky squad to host top-ranked Georgia in Week 3. That hypothetical matchup of 2-0 teams would’ve certainly put Lexington in College GameDay contention on September 14th.

Instead, they fell flat.

The Gamecocks suffocated the Kentucky offense, holding the ‘Cats to just 183 total yards. Starting QB Brock Vandagriff completed three passes, failing to lead his unit to the endzone.

South Carolina left with an emphatic 31-6 victory, grabbing bragging rights while reigniting an ongoing beef with their SEC rivals.

Not only would the Gamecocks celebrate that conference win, though. They’d then steal the Wildcats’ College GameDay thunder!

‘College GameDay’ is coming to Columbia.

The show will be on South Carolina’s campus this Saturday for a showdown with LSU. It seems the Wildcats took two L’s on Saturday!

Brutal insult to injury.

Shane Beamer blasted the media for “lazy narratives” surrounding his football team after the win. He felt disrespected by the negative attention his group received after Week 1.

“There was a perception out there about our team this week, but it wasn’t reality. We knew what kind of team we have. There were some lazy narratives out there about this team… Everybody involved with our program made a statement about what Gamecock football is about today.”

Now, all eyes will be on those Gamecocks ahead of next week’s college football kickoff.

Beamer was on the hot seat a week ago. Now, he’s hosting College GameDay. How quickly things can change!
