As a forever pained New York Jets fan, I will always root for any player that is able to escape their clutches and forge a successful career for themselves, especially considering that the franchise largely ruins the players they select in the draft.
Geno Smith, for example, is one of those former Jets I’ll always have a soft spot for as the 31-year-old — who was drafted by the Jets all the way back in 2013 — is finally being given a legitimate shot to be a starting QB somewhere, and so far, he’s taken it.
As the Seahawks starter this year, Smith has completed 77% of his passes for 1,037 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions, and has thoroughly been outplaying the man he replaced, Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson.
To crown his unexpectedly excellent start to the 2022 season, Smith was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week following a performance against the Detroit Lions that saw him pass for 320 yards and two touchdowns. And while the award has resulted in Smith deservedly getting his flowers, it’s also leading NFL fans to clown on Wilson for being outplayed by the former West Virginia Mountaineer so far this season.
NFL fans are clowning on Russell Wilson for being outplayed by Geno Smith through the first four games of the season
Geno Smith outplaying and putting up better numbers than Russell Wilson the first four games of the season is something

Geno Smith is No. 6 in ESPN's Total QBR through four weeks; Russell Wilson is No. 21.

/lobs into the TL
let us remember this is not a new playcaller in Seattle for Geno Smith's 2022 Top 12 QB season
It's the same one who called plays for Russell Wilson's final year as a Seahawk
the QB change is the real difference

Geno Smith has a higher QBR than Russell Wilson and Tom Brady. Never would have guessed it. pic.twitter.com/rpvZHhbenK

It’s hilarious that Seattle’s offense is tangibly better this year and the only real difference is replacing Russell Wilson with Geno Smith.

Geno Smith is your QB11 and is outscoring Russell Wilson (QB20) by 2.4 points per game.
He is now No. 6 in designed rush attempts for QBs across the league of gridiron football in the year of 20 and 22.

We know nothing. 🤣😂🤣

Geno Smith balling out while Russell Wilson is falling flat on his face leaves me with a lot of questions

To make circumstances even better for the 2-2 Seahawks — who are certainly in the thick of the NFC West race following about a quarter of the season — one of their wins came over Wilson and the Broncos back in primetime during Week 1.
