San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle’s season came to an unfortunate end on Sunday during the NFC Wild Card round as he suffered from a torn Achilles in the Niners’ win over the Eagles.

During the first half of the Wild Card game between the 49ers and Eagles, with about six minutes left in the second quarter, Pro Bowl tight end George Kittle made a 6-yard catch in the right flat and made a turn upfield.

As he did, Kittle’s right leg gave out as Philly linebacker Zack Baun brought him down with a tackle, with the injury immediately determined to be a torn Achilles. Even more cruel for Kittle is the fact that the 6-yard reception was his only catch in the game.

Despite losing their star tight end to a torn Achilles, the San Francisco 49ers were able to beat the Philadelphia Eagles on the road by a score of 23-19 to advance to the NFC Divisional Round, where they’ll face off against the #1 seed Seattle Seahawks.

Drafted out of the University of Iowa in the 5th round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the 32-year-old Kittle is a 7-time Pro Bowler and two-time First-team All Pro member.

As for the Eagles, the loss to the San Francisco 49ers — and the general mood surrounding the team throughout the course of the 2025 season — means head coach Nick Sirianni could be in the hot seat despite leading the team to a Super Bowl title just last year.
