Grambling State blew a lead to Arkansas Pine-Bluff during the college football game in Louisiana on Saturday. Unfortunately, the exciting finish was overshadowed by an ugly brawl that took place after the clock hit zero.
As of this writing, it is unclear as to what exactly triggered the incident.
However, the college football players threw multiple during the melee, which stemmed from an inability to keep composure during the postgame celebration. The SWAC will review the incident in the coming days and issue punishments accordingly.
Arkansas Pine-Bluff came from behind to defeat Grambling State.
Grambling State suffered its third-straight loss in a game that it should’ve won in Lousiana on Saturday afternoon. Although the Tigers trailed by five points at halftime. They took back the lead late in the third quarter and extended their lead with a 41-yard field goal.
And then it was all Arkansas Pine-Bluff in the fourth quarter. The Golden Lions jumped back in front on an eight-play 95-yard scoring drive. They added another touchdown on a 76-yard punt return after a quick three-and-out by the defense.

Grambling was able to get back within three but could not complete the comeback to the comeback. Arkansas Pine-Bluff won the game by a final score of 35-32.
The Tigers had more total yards of offense, more time of possession, more sacks and one less punt. However, they also committed four more penalties than the Lions and lost the game. It was a tough loss to swallow. Emotions were also heightened because it was Senior Night, and the last home game of the season because Grambling State is probably not going to make the postseason.
A nasty brawl broke out after the college football game.
Arkansas Pine-Bluff was thrilled with the come-from-behind victory. Its players danced onto the field to celebrate the win as soon as the clock hit zero and taunted the opposing sideline before they shook hands. Some of them wiped their feet on the midfield logo at the 50-yard-line. There was blatant intent of disrespect.
Grambling did not appreciate its opponent’s behavior. At some point during the celebration, one of the Tigers players reacted to the Golden Lions’ taunts. It very quickly escalated from there. Players from both teams converged around the 33-yard-line and started throwing punches.

Tigers head coach Mickey Joseph did not address the fight during his postgame press conference but the university released the following statement:
“Grambling State University athletics is aware of the incident that occurred today involving members of the Grambling State University football program.
“We sincerely apologize for the behavior exhibited and unequivocally denounce the actions of those involved.
“This conduct is unacceptable and does not align with the standards, expectations, and values established by our athletic department and university. We want to be clear that this is not Grambling State football, nor is it behavior that we encourage or expect from our student-athletes.
“There is zero tolerance for this type of behavior. Those involved will be held accountable, and appropriate disciplinary action will be administered in accordance with university and athletic department policies.
“We deeply regret the disappointment and concern this incident has caused and remain committed to upholding the integrity, discipline, and tradition of Grambling State University athletics.”
Arkansas Pine-Bluff head coach Alonzo Hampton told the Pine Bluff Commercial that he also condones the brawl.
“It’s embarrassing. That can’t happen, and regardless of who wins the game, we as mentors, right, as leaders, we gotta make sure our players gotta be able to understand, man, it’s a way that you handle yourself at all times, and we all gotta be accountable for that.”
Grambling State was involved with a similar incident during its game against Bethune-Cookman in 2025. The SWAC decided to suspend 27 players from the fight and issued fines to both teams. I would expect a similar result here. Suspensions are imminent.
