Creighton Head Coach Dwarfed Bill Murray’s Son During Heated Kerfuffle Over Braggadocious Dunk

Greg McDermott Uconn Luke Murray Fight Scuffle

Greg McDermott got right up in the face of Luke Murray, son of Bill Murray, after Creighton beat UConn in the Big East Tournament on late Friday night. He towered over him during a heated postgame exchange that stemmed from a last-second dunk and the behavior of Dan Hurley.

It was intense!

This latest incident actually dates back to February. The Huskies pulled a come-from-behind win over the Blue Jays in Omaha on dollar beer night, which led the home crowd to be extra hostile toward the visiting head coach as he left the arena. Hurley reminded them his back-to-back national titles and pointed to his ring finger while walking off of the floor. “TWO RINGS,” he said.

Now fast forward to Friday. Creighton beat UConn by a final score of 71-62 to advance to the Big East championship game but the final two points scored led to an on-court scuffle. Jamiya Neal threw down a fancy dunk as time expired. That did not go over well with Hassan Diarra, who fought back.

Tempers flared. Both head coaches exchanged words while officials cleared the court.

The Blue Jays ultimately went on to win just 1.5 seconds later. And as soon as the clock hit zero, McDermott went back after Hurley. Hurley kind of brushed him off, but Murray was right there behind him to feel the wrath of McDermott. The latter towered over the former. Completely dwarfed him.

Luke Murray got “sonned” by Greg McDermott, which was a tough look for the son of Bill Murray. Pun intended.

Neither coach chose to address the matter during their postgame availability so I do not know exactly what Murray did to anger McDermott, but he was not happy. In fact, his anger seemed more directed toward the assistant than his head coaching counterpart. What gives?

Regardless of what happened to send Greg McDermott into a tizzy, Creighton won and UConn lost. He gets the last laugh this time.
