Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker isn’t backing down after facing backlash over his controversial comments during a college commencement speech.

Last week, Butker went viral after his speech at Benedictine College in Kansas and offended many when he described Pride Month as a sin and spoke about the roles of men and women in soceity.

Butker’s teammates, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, have come forward to say that they disagree with Butker’s comments but respect his opinions.

In his first speech since the controversy began, Butker doubled down on his comments and believes the backlash he received came from people who hate traditional Catholic values.

“If it wasn’t clear that the timeless Catholic values are hated by many, it is now,” Butker said. “Over the past few days, my beliefs, or what people think I believe, have been the focus of countless discussions around the globe. At the outset, many people expressed a shocking level of hate, but as the days went on, even those who disagreed with my viewpoints shared their support for my freedom of religion.

“The more I’ve talked about what I value most, which is my Catholic faith, the more polarizing I have become. It’s a decision I’ve consciously made and one I do not regret at all.”

It doesn’t seem like the Butker controversy is going to die down anytime soon.
