This past weekend brought us the most uneventful finish in baseball history.

It came at the minor league level in a matchup between the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and the Biloxi Shuckers. The Double-A showdown ended in a 7-6 victory for the home team Pensacola, but the method of victory left a lot to be desired.

Let’s start from the beginning.

With the Blue Wahoos trailing 6-4, they stepped to the dish for the bottom half of the final frame. The first batter reached on an error by the shortstop. Next was a walk to the two-hole hitter.

Then, things got downright weird.

The next four hitters would be plunked. The first loaded the bases, while the following three plated runs, the last of which decided the game.

It’s truly bizarre as the opposing team didn’t even look to the bullpen. I’m not sure what else would warrant a change if not a walk and three straight hit batsmen in a tie game.

For some reason, though, that move was not made. The pitcher would hit one more batter for good measure.

The final line for that ninth inning frame was equally as odd.

Three runs on no hits and one error. Five runners were either walked or hit by pitch. Only one ball was put in play, and even that stayed in the infield.

You’ll be hard pressed to find another ending as truly unexciting as that.
