Imagine dating somebody for eight years and then — poof — they’re gone. That is allegedly what happened earlier this year with a professional hockey player who may or may not have been living a double life while playing in Russia.

Emma Noyes, a published author and viral internet personality, recently told the story in a since-deleted TikTok video. It’s pretty insane.

Noyes was not the girl involved, which is an admittedly underwhelming twist. But it’s still crazy!

She says that it was her best friend of 20 years who was the girlfriend and told the story on her behalf. She insists that it really happened.

The premise is this:

  • A girl was dating a (unnamed) professional hockey player.
  • They had been together for more than seven years.
  • He received a very lucrative opportunity to play in Russia.
  • She supported him and encouraged him to take the offer.
  • The couple of eight years stayed in touch while he was overseas.
  • His season came to an end and he was set to return home to the U.S.
  • He told her how excited he was to see her when he got home.
  • Rather than returning home, he went on vacation.
  • She asked what happened.
  • He never answered.
  • She repeatedly reached out for an answer, and ultimately closure.
  • He never answered.
  • Eventually, after he returned home, he answered with a cryptic text.
  • That was the last thing she ever heard from him.
  • It was later discovered that he had a separate girlfriend.
  • The hockey player and his other girlfriend got engaged.

Here is how Noyes discussed the saga in her own words:

There is a lot to breakdown here.

As soon as the video went insanely viral, internet sleuths concluded that it was a 26-year-old American forward who was drafted by the Maple Leafs in 2015. He currently plays with HC Sochi of the KHL in Russia. The suspected player went private on Instagram shortly after the video reached the masses.

Noyes later shut down that theory and said that she did not know of him until two days ago.

The original video has since been deleted from Noyes’ TikTok page. She does not want her friend’s story to impact the lives of innocent pro hockey players, who are being accused without merit.

In her explanation, Noyes reiterated that it was 100% true.

As the internet continues to try and figure out who the player might be, Noyes’ story has taken on a life of its own. To never hear from your boyfriend of eight years after he moved to Russia for hockey is just brutal.
