Hue Jackson is set to be unemployed, again, by day’s end. According to multiple reports, Grambling State University has decided to fire the 58-year-old after just two years.

It might be time for him to consider hanging it up.

Jackson, a former head coach with two different NFL franchises, took his first job on the collegiate level in 2022. The Tigers won three games in his first season. They finished year two at 5-6 with a loss to Southern University — their biggest rivals — in the 50th annual Bayou Classic on Saturday.

Is this the end of Hue Jackson?

Assuming that things go as expected in north Louisiana on Tuesday, Jackson has failed to last three full seasons during each of his three opportunities as a head coach. They have not gone well.

Oakland fired him after missing the playoffs in his lone season. Cleveland cut him loose after going 3-36, including the 0-16 season in 2017. Grambling, one of the most historic HBUC programs with an expectation for success, is moving on after going 8-14 during two underwhelming seasons.

His apology — TO ABSOLUTELY NOBODY — will live forever.

As will his fake phone call on a private jet.

This was likely Jackson’s last chance to be a head coach. This was also likely to be the final stop of his career, unless he chooses to return to a lower-level position at a smaller program in the future.

Hue Jackson began coaching in 1987. He has worked for Pacific, Cal State Fullerton, Arizona State, Cal-Berkeley, USC, Tennessee State and Grambling on the college football level. He has worked with the London Monarchs, Washington Redskins, Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, Oakland Raiders and Baltimore Ravens on the NFL level. It has been a wild, lengthy journey that saw a smattering of success and a lot of failure.

Although a lot of jokes have been made at Jackson’s expense in the past, he is the one laughing. Few coaches can claim a 36-year career, and there have been quite a few hefty paychecks along the way!
