It wasn’t a huge stretch to assume Hue Jackson was going to face an uphill battle in his quest to land another coaching job after he was dismissed by Grambling State last year, but it appears he’s managed to find a suitor despite his fairly underwhelming track record.

In 2011, Hue Jackson secured his first job as a head coach in the NFL when he was hired by the Raiders only to be fired after going 8-8 in his first and only season at the helm. He spent a few years working his way up the ranks with the Bengals, and in 2016, he landed another head coaching gig courtesy of the Browns.

As you probably know, his time in Cleveland was an unmitigated disaster. The Browns posted a 1-15 record during his first season, and while it seemed like the team had nowhere to go but up from there, they proved that was not the case by becoming just the second team in NFL history to go 0-16.

Jackson was somehow allowed to return for a third season before being fired after getting off to a 2-5 start in 2018, and after a brief return to Cincinnati, he spent a few years laying low.

He eventually made his grand return as the offensive coordinator at Tennessee State in 2021 before landing the head coaching job at Grambling State the following year. However, his time with the Tigers came to an end after two seasons where he posted an 8-14 record

Jackson criticized the school for not giving him enough time to turn things around while bemoaning the “lack of transparency, coordination, and collaboration” he said many programs at HBCUs are guilty of.

Now, HBCU Legends reports he’s on the verge of getting to see if he’ll run into those issues at Morehouse College, as the outlet says he’s currently the top candidate for the school’s head coaching vacancy and in the midst of an ongoing contract negotiation.

Those Tigers don’t really have much to lose when you consider they went 1-9 under Gerard Wilcher last season, so while Jackson’s résumé may leave a bit to be desired, you have to imagine he’ll have plenty of motivation to prove the doubters wrong.
