Serious boxing fans think the super fight is a complete farce and beneath the sport. Even casual boxing fans acknowledge that the entire charade is one big money grab for Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather. For the fight, Floyd’s expected to make over $100 million and Conor’s estimated to pull in over $75 million of his own. The most money Conor McGregor’s brought in for a fight to date is $15 million, which is an absolute fortune for a man who was collecting welfare checks just a few years ago.
There is, quite literally, no possible way Conor McGregor can win this fight. At the same time, he’s already won. He’ll take home more money than he could’ve ever imagined for getting clowned in the ring by one of the most boring in-ring boxers ever (he’s captivating outside of the ring!), a defensive specialist, and a man who hasn’t won a match by knockout since Victor Ortiz in 2011. All Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather have to do in order to win is show up to the fight, the results are already predetermined. If Conor loses his temper and tries to kick Floyd he’ll be sued into oblivion, and that contract is already in place.
