Campbell suffered the injury on the first play of the fourth quarter Sunday when his head collided with Hockenson’s hip while attempting a tackle. He remained motionless on the turf as medical personnel attended to him before he was immobilized and taken off the field.
Following the game, Lions head coach Dan Campbell revealed that the linebacker was alert and breathing while being transported to the hospital, with the team subsequently announcing that preliminary indications regarding his condition were positive. Speaking to reporters Monday, the Lions coach said he had visited Campbell and his family at the hospital and that everyone was in good spirits.
Campbell, who was selected by Detroit with the 18th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, earned All-Pro honors last season and signed a four-year contract extension with the Lions earlier this year.
While Campbell’s latest statement offers an encouraging update on his recovery, the full extent of his neck injury and a potential timeline for his return have not been publicly disclosed.
