Freshman quarterback Jaden Rashada could be the Day 1 starter at ASU this fall. Recent reports claim that the former Florida signee is emerging as a possible QB1 candidate.

Rashada is reportedly turning heads with his big arm and boatloads of talent. The news comes following an offseason of drama surrounding his recruitment.

The passer, who hails from California, is entering his true freshman season in Tempe. That didn’t always appear to be the case, though. In fact, Rashada initially signed a Letter of Intent to play in Gainesville.

This, coming after a commitment and following decommitment from the University of Miami.

A month after signing that LOI, however, the four-star prospect left Florida. News later came out that an agreed upon $13 million NIL deal fell through, leading to his departure.

The signal caller opted to head back out west to Arizona State, and it appears he’s wowing the coaching staff this offseason.

Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports says that he could be in line to be named the starter come opening weekend.

“He has an NFL arm,” a source said of Rashada. “He can throw the ball 60 yards with a flick of the wrist and has completed several passes over 55 yards where he’s hitting the receivers on the money in stride. This kid has unreal talent.”

It’s quite the surprise considering Rashada’s initial spot on the depth chart. Upon arriving to campus, he was listed as third string behind former Notre Dame passer Drew Pyne and senior Trenton Bourguet.

While he was one of the most coveted recruits in the 2023 class, not many predicted Rashada’s ascension up the ASU lineup.

Head coach Kyle Dillingham is expected to name his starter next week. The Sun Devils open with Southern Utah in Week 1.
