Jake Paul Says Brain Scans Show He Has ‘Early Signs Of CTE’ Due To Boxing Career

Youtuber Jake Paul has only been fighting professionally for a few years and he claims he’s already seeing the negative health effects of being a boxer.

During Thursday’s media session for his upcoming boxing match against former UFC fighter Ben Askren, Paul talked about how he’s already showing “early signs of CTE” but says he doesn’t regret his decision to pursue a boxing career because he loves the sport.

“It’s a dangerous sport. That’s why, when people question my dedication to it, it’s like, I’m showing up every single day,” “I’m putting my mental health on the line, my brain is on the line. Like you said, I’ve gone and gotten brain scans and (I) have early signs of CTE. But, I love this sport and wouldn’t trade it for anything else. I’m a fighter and people will see that whether it’s after Saturday night or whether it’s a year from now they will see that I’m a fighter.”

It’s pretty wild that Paul would openly admit to potentially having brain damage while talking to the media. It’ll be interesting to see if athletic commissions will ask him about his CTE claims whenever he has to register for a fight license in the future.

Paul vs. Askren takes place this Saturday, April 17th, in Atlanta, GA, and will stream live via Fite TV and on Triller PPV.
