Jamal Adams likes what he’s seeing out of Seahawks secondary member Devon Witherspoon. The safety commented on his fellow defensive back’s play throughout his rookie season, making a hilarious comparison to emphasize his point.

Seattle walked away with a 20-10 win over division rival Arizona on Sunday to improve to 4-2 on the year. The defense shined in that victory, holding the Cardinals to just 249 total yards and keeping them off the scoreboard in the second half.

Both Adams and Witherspoon made an impact, combining for 10 tackles and a pair of pass breakups.

After the game, the veteran was asked about his new teammate. Adams has been thoroughly impressed with Witherspoon thus far, noting how quickly he’s been able to adjust to the speed of the NFL.

Adams compared Witherspoon’s play to that of his own as a rookie, making a hilariously blunt statement on his abilities.

“My rookie year, I was a–,” Adams said. “He’s a phenomenal football player. Hats off to him, he’s very smart, he’s very coachable. He listens, and there’s a reason why he’s not a top 5 pick… He’s definitely not a–.”

After a lockdown career at Illinois, Witherspoon was selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The corner has blossomed into a fantastic addition to the Seattle secondary, starting five games in Year 1.

To date, he’s totaled 31 tackles and an interception, which he returned 97 yards for a touchdown in Week 4 against the Giants.

The first-round pick is making a home in the defensive backfield. He should be a mainstay with the Seahawks as his career progresses.
