Liberty head football coach Jamey Chadwell and App State have serious beef that dates back to his time at Coastal Carolina. The Mountaineers absolutely hate him and he does not shy away from conflict.
His most recent jab at the former conference rivals will only add fuel to the fire!
Chadwell coached the Chanticleers from 2019-2022. He completely turned around an irrelevant program that only moved up to the FBS level in 2016 and went 11-1 in 2020, 11-2 in 2021 and 9-3 in 2022.
The final three years of his five-year tenure with Coastal was an overwhelming success.
Chadwell beat App State at home in 2020, lost on the road in 2021 and won again at home in 2022. The three-game series between the two Sun Belt Conference opponents was intense. Neither fanbase was kind to the opposing players. It didn’t help that Chanticleers linebacker Teddy Gallagher referred to the Mountaineers as “bums” and described Boone as “stinky, smelly and cold.”
Needless to say, App State fans do not like Jamey Chadwell because of his time with Coastal. They anxiously await his return to North Carolina with the Flames on Sept. 28— which is already sold out.
Not only is that game a premier matchup between two of the best G4 programs in the country, the home team is buzzing about the visitor’s head coach. Gallagher is also on staff at Liberty so there’s extra juice!
Jamey Chadwell is already poking the coals.
A concerning video leaked out of fall camp in Boone last week. It shows an unnamed defensive lineman rip the helmet off of his teammate’s head and swing it violently right back at him.
Apparently there were also a few skirmishes during practice in Lynchburg.
Chadwell was asked about what happened during his press conference. The head coach explained that small fights are going to happen, which is a healthy thing. And then he took a shot at App State.
When you’re banging on each other a lot, it happens.

His smirk said more than his words. As did his throat clear after the jab.
