Specs On Jayson Tatum’s RM 055 Bubba Watson Watch

The RM 055 Bubba Watson is a manual winding watch that was designed with the aesthetics of the golf course in mind. It says it right there in the name, Bubba Watson. The RM 055 Bubba Watson is a tourbillon inspired by the previous RM 038 Bubba Watson tourbillon watch that was presented by Richard Mille in 2011. Bubba and Richard Mille have had a longstanding partnership.

RM 055 Bubba Watson has a 55-hour power reserve, 42.7 mm case diameter, 16.15 mm thick grade 5 titanium case and the bezel is also made of grade 5 titanium. According to the Richard Mille website, the Calibre RMUL2 in this watch is ‘capable of withstanding accelerations of over 5000 g’s.’ There are 24 jewels in the movement in total.

What Makes Richard Mille Watches So Special?

Richard Mille watches are both incredibly expensive and immensely popular with athletes and celebrities. Part of what makes these luxury watches so special is how light they are. A basketball player could play a pickup game wearing one, a golfer could wear a Richard Mille watch on the course, or a tennis player could wear one during a match. There’s obviously the scarcity factor at play as well because they aren’t mass-produced. And of course the complications, jewels, and unique designs all contribute to the astronomical prices of Richard Mille watches.

It’s not really fair to say ‘Richard Mille watches are everywhere’ amongst athletes and celebrities because there are truly only so many to go around. And they’re incredibly expensive. This RM055 Bubba Watson cost $500,000 for Jayson Tatum to acquire! But if you look around, a select group of A-Listers seem to covet and prefer Richard Mille watches:

It’s not unrealistic to say that Jayson Tatum got a deal paying only $500,000 for a Richard Mille watch. In 2021, an RM 008 Tourbillon sold for $7,206,000, an RM 11-03 2018 McLaren sold for $3,992,000, and another RM 57-03 Dragon Sapphire NTPT Tourbillon sold for $3,992,00. The list of Richard Mille watches selling for multi-million dollars isn’t short.
