Jerick McKinnon crushed the souls of a number of sports bettors with a late game decision in the Super Bowl. The running back made a heads up move on the team’s final drive, but many are wishing he’d taken the easier option.
McKinnon’s choice now has many posting reactions online.
With the score tied at 35-35 in the fourth quarter, the Chiefs gave a first down handoff to Jerick McKinnon. He found the outside easily and had nothing but green grass standing between him and the endzone.
Rather than score the easy touchdown, though, he opted to slide. The decision allowed Kansas City to run more time off the clock, setting up a go-ahead field goal with just 11 seconds remaining in play.
Still, the bettors that wagered on Jerick McKinnon to find paydirt were hurting.
The online reaction was fantastic.

Those anytime touchdown bets involving Jerick McKinnon sat around +200 at most sportsbooks. The decision to slide on the goal line cost a few bettors a Super Bowl payday.
In the end, it turned out to be the right call for the team. As mentioned before, the slide allowed Kansas City to run another minute and a half from the game clock. That kept the ball out of Jalen Hurts’ hands and prevented the Eagles a chance of tying the game or taking a late lead on the final drive.
Instead, Philadelphia got only one play off at the end of the game. That was a Hail Mary attempt that fell well short of the endzone. Jerick McKinnon and the Chiefs got the win, but it came at a cost for those that supported him at the sportsbooks.
