Baltimore Orioles Legend Jim Palmer Promises To Eat First Ever Chicken Wing If Team Hits Grand Slam

Hall of Fame Baltimore Orioles pitcher Jim Palmer has seen and done it all in his over 50 years in the spotlight, first as a player and then as a broadcaster. One thing he’s never done, however, is try a chicken wing.

This was revealed during the Orioles’ broadcast on Tuesday, a loss to the Guardians. After he was presented with chicken wings during Wednesday’s claim, Palmer refused to eat the wings, but claimed he would under one condition.

Palmer, a three-time Cy Young Award winner widely considered the best pitcher in franchise history, is a true Orioles lifer. There’s a statue of him outside of Oriole Park at Camden Yards, a frequent spot to pose for photos.

The story starts on Tuesday. Take a look.

Palmer isn’t a vegetarian, and he eats chicken. To not have a single chicken wing or piece of fried chicken is insane. He’s had to have been in a room with one of these items on the catering line hundreds and hundreds of times. He’s missing out on two great culinary pleasures.

On Wednesday, the MASN production team made sure to get Jim Palmer some chicken wings, and hilarity ensued.

The odds that the Orioles hit a grand slam with him in the booth is pretty high. There were 89 grand slams in all of Major League Baseball last year. And, we should all be rooting for an Orioles grand slam so that Jim Palmer can experience the beauty of a chicken wing again.
