There are changes coming for Jimbo Fisher’s program following a subpar season at Texas A&M. The Aggies finished with just five wins in Jimbo’s fifth season, after Fisher’s team entered the year ranked 6th in the polls.

There have been reports of a mass exodus of transfers, with some players already making their decision to hit the transfer portal. But the roster won’t be the only thing that will look different in 2023.

The coaching staff will see some changes, too, and the first domino has officially fallen. Jimbo Fisher has fired offensive coordinator Darrell Dickey after the unit finished ranked 94th in the nation in production.

Murmurs of a move at OC had already begun to swirl with the inconsistency on offense, particularly given the talent that came in over the most recent recruiting classes. But there’s one detail that has many fans on social media critical of the firing.

Some are calling Dickey a scapegoat due to the fact that Jimbo Fisher actually calls the plays. It’s been this way since his days at Florida State.

That fact has many wondering who the next hire might be, and whether or not that person will have full reign over the offense or if Fisher will continue to meddle. One fan asked, “Will Jimbo Fisher ease up/give up play calling duties?”

Aggie fans are hoping that Fisher will allow the new candidate some freedom to lead the unit, otherwise, they fear the offense will look as inept as it did in 2022.

There are definitely positives to relinquishing some of the play calling duties. One, Fisher can have time to focus on big picture concepts rather than balance the responsibility of being both a head coach and OC.

Secondly, it might give the unit a fresh perspective which can often lead to a spark. Still, many are skeptical that Fisher will cede those duties to the next hire.

That decision could have a massive effect on Jimbo Fisher’s future, as his seat has certainly heated up following this year’s 5-7 campaign. He won’t have many more scapegoats to fire should things continue to go south in College Station.
