Jimmy Garoppolo was not active for Sunday’s NFL game between the Raiders and Bears. He missed out on a significant chunk of money as a result of his absence, which is his second second of the season.

Garoppolo, 31, signed 3 year, $72,750,000 contract with Las Vegas. $45,000,000 is guaranteed.

The other $27.75 million can be earned through bonuses. This is where the finances start to dwindle with every game that he is not on the field.

Per his agreement, Garoppolo earns a $90,000 per-game-active-roster bonus. Every time that he is on the active roster — starting or not — a cool 90 grand hits his bank account.

Essentially, the Raiders don’t want to pay him as much money if Garoppolo not playing. They will save a few bucks with the roster bonus clause.

To put the $90,000 number in perspective, according to Forbes, the average annual salary in the United States is $59,428. Garoppolo makes 1.5 times that amount with every game at which he is dressed.

Jimmy Garoppolo loses a good chunk of money if he is not on the field.

He is already out $180,000 so far this season.

Garoppolo missed Week 4 against the Chargers with a concussion. Because he was not on the active roster, he did not receive his $90,000 bonus.

Garoppolo missed Week 7 on Sunday against the Bears with a back injury that saw him leave the field in an ambulance. The good news is that his injury is not more serious. A back issue could have potentially ended his season, if not his career. He is very fortunate for that.

The bad news is that Garoppolo lost another $90,000 bonus while wearing street clothes in Chicago.

According to Adam Schefter, it is expected that Garoppolo will be back for next week’s Monday Night Football game against the Lions. He will be $90,000 richer if that is true!
