  • Outduel Patrick Mahomes isn’t easy, but Burrow managed to do so in just his second season.

Following their 27-24 overtime victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, in just his second season, became the king of the internet after the upset win.

Despite being down 21-3 in the first half, the Bengals were able to hold the two-time defending AFC Champion Chiefs to just six points the rest of the game. As for Burrow, he completed 23 of 38 passes for 250 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. The stats don’t tell the full story, though, as Burrow’s pocket presence and ability to avoid sacks were on full display following the game.

Once the Bengals locked up their first Super Bowl appearance since 1989, Burrow — similar to when he and LSU won the National Title a few years back — became the king of the internet with memes and jokes about the second-year signal-caller absolutely pouring in.

While Burrow is in his second season in the NFL, he’s older than most quarterbacks at that age (25), which perhaps explains why his play seems so mature relative to his experience. The Bengals selected Burrow with the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. After an injury-shortened 2-7-1 first season as a starter, he led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990 a few weeks back, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports.

Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals will take on the winner of Sunday night’s NFC Championship between the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVI at SoFi Stadium on February 13, 2022.
