New York Giants head coach Joe Judge should probably tread lightly when it comes to saying anything remotely controversial at the moment. His team is sitting at 0-3 on the year and his seat getting hotter by the day, but he’s still letting things fly during media sessions.

During the Giants’ most recent loss to the Falcons, Judge elected to send out the punt team while on Atlanta’s 39-yard line. He was of course asked about this during his Wednesday presser, and his response was interesting, to say the least.

“Analytics is just a tool,” Judge said. “You can look at a stat sheet all ya want. I promise you if Excel was gonna win football games, Bill Gates would be killing it right now.”

It would be one thing for Judge to make this sort of comment about analytics if his team was sitting around midfield or something. Not taking a risk, or even attempting a lengthy field goal, inside your opponent’s 40-yard line is mind-boggling.

Judge can be on the fence when it comes to analytics, but if he’s such a ‘flow of the game’ type of coach, making more risky play calls in your opponent’s half of the field sounds like a solid chance to take when you’re team is searching for its first win.
