North Korea, specifically state-run media, was a topic of conversation during a recent episode of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ with guest Fahim Anwar. Naturally, one of the wildest sports-related state media stories ever told came up: Kim Jong Il making five holes-in-one during his first-ever round of golf.

Everyone with a pulse knows that the late North Korean leader did not make five holes-in-one in a single round of golf. The story also goes that he shot 34-under par during his 18-hole round, which again, is impossible.

While everyone knows that the story is bogus, the real story here is the fact that it was presented as legitimate news in the first place.

Or so we thought it was ‘legitimate’ news.

As Rogan started discussing the story of the five holes-in-one, his producer, Jamie, chimes in and says that he read a story about the story itself being a giant scoring misunderstanding.

Whoever the original reporter was didn’t understand the scoring system Il was using on his scorecard. He saw five ones written down, thinking that meant five holes-in one, but apparently, that was him keeping track of how many shots over par he was per hole.

You can read the full breakdown of the scoring error here.

Rogan himself didn’t want to believe that it was an error, he wanted the propaganda to keep on propaganda-ing.
