A lightning delay during Monday Night Football was certainly not what the NFL wanted when it scheduled the first primetime, standalone game at SoFi Stadium. Especially considering the fact that the brand new, $5 billion stadium has a roof— and it’s in Los Angeles, where rain is few and far between.

Everybody and their mother was extremely confused by the seemingly impossible delay. But nobody was more confused than Jon Gruden.

The Las Vegas Raiders head coach simply could not comprehend how a domed stadium could be affected by weather.

After his visible skepticism during the game, Gruden addressed the 35-minute delay with the media. His response was perfectly Gruden.

“I’m not an engineer, I have no idea. I have never heard that. I thought it was a joke. But it affected both teams,” Gruden said.

In addition to the bizarre weather scenario, the 58-year-old also took umbrage with the SoFi Stadium architect. He aired out his beef with the visitor’s locker room and would be interested in a meeting with whomever was behind the design.

“The locker room here is the most bizarre thing I’ve ever seen. I mean you can’t see anybody. It’s like a maze. So whoever contorted this visiting locker room, I’d like to meet this guy, see what his idea was,” Gruden said.

What an amazing mental image…

Can you imagine Jon Gruden sitting down with an architect, or a team of architects, and picking their brains about the way they “contorted” the visiting locker room?

A quick Google search would discover that HKS Inc. was behind much of the blueprints. Let’s get Gruden in a room with their top staffers and a white board.

A livestream of the meeting might even out-perform Monday’s game, which suffered a hit from the delay and the fact that the Chargers jumped out to a 21-0 lead at halftime. As for the the final score, Gruden said neither the delay nor the locker room played a factor in the lost.

Nevertheless, he couldn’t have been more bewildered by an indoor weather delay.
