Francis Ngannou rocked the MMA world after opting to not re-sign with the UFC. Since then, many have shared their opinions about the former Heavyweight champion.

Now, Richard Schaefer, Jon Jones’ advisor, speaks out about Ngannou’s decision.

According to MMA Fighting, Shaefer doesn’t see eye-to-eye with the UFC star’s choice to leave the organization. In fact, he fully believes that he “made a mistake.” Jon Jones’ advisor explains his opinion in full detail.

He states, “I think he’s a terrific athlete and I think he has some big fights ahead of him and I personally think, just my feeling, that he made a mistake not working out his deal with UFC. But it’s his decision. That’s what he is doing and the world goes on, and UFC goes on. There’s going to be other big fights and there are other heavyweights lined up to fight the winner of this fight, to fight Jon [Jones] after he beats [Ciryl Gane]. So we’ll move on and keep doing the best fighting the best, the best which are available.

Francis Ngannou’s future is really up in the air right now. He could join one of the other MMA promotions such as Bellator or the PFL. On the other hand, there is some buzz surrounding a potential boxing match against Tyson Fury. However, in the end, Jon Jones and his team are focusing on themselves in the UFC.

Although they don’t agree with Ngannou’s decision, Jones’ team sure does respect him. Richard Schaefer goes on to say, “For whatever reason, Francis decided to step aside. I respect that and wish him all the best,” per MMA Fighting.

As for the current Heavyweight title fight, Jon Jones and his team look forward to facing Ciryl Gane. It should be a solid fight, as it should live up to expectations.
