Green Bay Packers defensive back Jonathan Owens is the envy of a whole slew of men out there thanks to him being married to Simone Biles.

The 28-year-old strong safety began dating the gymnastics GOAT in August of 2020. The couple then got engaged in February of 2022, and then married in April of 2023.

Simone Biles, 26, who has won four Olympic gold medals, 23 World Cahmpionships gold medals, and two Pacific Rim Championships gold medals, is the most decorated gymnast in history of the sport.

So when he claimed on The Pivot podcast this week that he had no idea who Biles was until he started dating her, everyone on the panel was left in complete disbelief.

The conversation began when, while discussing football, Channing Crowder jumped in with a question to Jonathan Owens.

“Bro, I gotta ask you man,” Crowder said to Owens. “As pretty red dimes as we are, how in the hell did you pull Simone Biles?”

The camera then cut to Biles chuckling and grinning off to the side.

“I just got to Houston,” Owens replied. “I probably had been to Houston 7 months. I was single at the time, so I’m just living being myself and Covid had just hit. But I had just went to Arizona and one of my boys are like, ‘hey, man you got to check out this app,’ and I’m like ‘I’ll check it out, like what is it?’ It was called Raya at the time. So basically it’s like a dating app, but you know, you have to go through certain, like, criteria to make sure that you’re who you are.

“So literally have been on app for a couple days, man, and it’s like she pops up. And I’m like let me see who this is. Gymnastics, I ain’t never really paid attention to gymnastics so it piqued my curiosity. So I’m like okay that’s, I see what’s up.

“I swiped her and it said we matched, so I’m like okay, so I’m going to see what’s up.

“So I go do my workout and I come back and I get like, I have some likes on my Instagram, and I’m like I’m like, oh, this might be, I’m like okay!

“So I see what’s up and then I still waited. I’m like, man, I’m going wait. I’m going to wait till I take a shower and everything.

“Then I come back to my phone and then she messaged me on the app, like, ‘hey!’ You know what I mean?

“And I’m, man, that’s got to be fake. Like, I don’t know. Just, I didn’t know who she was at the time, but like the first thing that I saw was that she just had a bunch of followers. So in my mind, I’m like, okay, she got to be good.”

“I promise you. I’m, real life story… When she won the Olympics I was in college and we didn’t have NBC, we didn’t have Olympics Channel and we’re in camp. We’re in camp. Late July early August. So I’m not paying attention to, you know, so I never would have had a moment to where I would have watched.

“Like I was saying, man, she messaged me. This was like a Tuesday and we were texting back and forth and then we hung out Friday and we couldn’t do much cause Covid happened, everything was shut down. So she came down to Houston, she lived in the suburbs, so she had to drive about 45 minutes to me. Then the rest is history.”

Owens, after explaining why he wasn’t all that interested in getting serious with Simone Biles (again, the crew was dumbfounded), he was asked, “Did you tell her you didn’t know who she was?”

He says he just asked her who her competition was, because he didn’t know anything about gymnastics, Biles replied, “Myself.”

Jonathan Owens said he truly discovered just how big of a star Simone Biles was when they went out in Houston and people were asking him to take their picture with her.

Amazingly, he also admitted that if she hadn’t messaged him they probably would have never gotten together.

Incredible.
