Head basketball coach John Calipari is parting ways with Kentucky after 15 seasons on the sidelines. While there are those excited about the change of leadership, others are sad to see him go.

That includes former players impacted by the head coach, and their families. Kendra Randle, wife of NBA star Julius Randle, is one of those who will miss seeing Coach Cal on the Kentucky bench.

Randle played in Lexington for just one season, but his tie to Calipari will always be there thanks to an act of generosity and love about a decade back.

Kendra Randle took social media to speak on that moment, which she says saved her grandmother’s life.

“Four years ago my grandmother was very sick in a small hospital in eastern Kentucky,” she wrote on X. “Julius called Coach Cal and asked if there was anyone he knew that could get her transferred to UK hospital. Fifteen minutes later, she was in a helicopter to UK and I still to this day believe he saved her life.”

She then continued on with a second post, writing, “The impact and excitement you brought Kentucky as a whole will never be forgotten but our family, especially, will never forget that. Just a small example of how much he loves his players truly. We love you coach!”

An incredible gesture in a time of need.

Obviously, relationships in Lexington soured due to John Calipari’s early tournament exits over the last few seasons, but some things are bigger than basketball.

Kendra Randle will always support the head coach and can thank him for having this awesome story to tell.

As for John Calipari, he will soon be off to Arkansas in hopes of impacting college basketball players at a new school.
