Former Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons has no sympathy for Kansas City Chiefs fans complaining about the officiating in their team’s most recent loss.

In fact, Simmons believes Chiefs fans should be the last people to complain about NFL referees, and he didn’t hold back when explaining why.

“Y’all been cheating the whole time y’all had Patrick Mahomes! Refs been cheating!” Simmons said on The Last Line, a podcast he hosts with former Broncos teammate Kareem Jackson.

Simmons Rips Chiefs Fans For Complaining About Controversial False Start

The controversy started on Sunday when the Chiefs lost to Denver 28-24 after squandering an 11-point lead in the quarter.

The Chiefs looked like they might pull off another comeback when Patrick Mahomes connected with Rashee Rice for a touchdown on fourth-and-goal from the Broncos’ 1-yard line. That’s when right tackle Jaylon Moore was called for a false start, and the touchdown was wiped off the board.

On the next play, Mahomes got sacked, giving Denver the win and the top spot in the AFC West.

Of course, Chiefs fans were not happy. Even Patrick Mahomes questioned the timing of the penalty, saying after the game, “A lot of times in those big moments, the little stuff doesn’t get called like that.”

Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid wasn’t convinced there was a penalty either, telling reporters, “I saw him move his head, but I didn’t see a false start.”

Brittany Mahomes also complained on social media, calling it the weakest call she’d ever seen.

Justin Simmons, however, wasn’t having any of it.

“I already got beef with Chiefs fans anyway. I don’t like y’all. Y’all don’t like me. That’s cool,” Justin Simmons said. “Not everybody is going to like you in life. I seen all on social media: ‘That wasn’t a false start! They called that on us! They hate us!’”

He then called fans “delusional” for arguing the penalty was incorrect, adding, “It was a false start. Y’all lost, and y’all lost at the 1-yard line.”

Kareem Jackson, his former teammate and co-host, likened the Chiefs to “the kid in the neighborhood who loses and they take their ball, and they go home with it.”

Kansas City Chiefs’ History Of Controversial Calls Comes Back Into Focus

Justin Simmons’ claims are nothing new. The Kansas City Chiefs have been accused of receiving favorable treatment from NFL officials for years.

Fans have previously complained about questionable holding penalties and false starts involving Kansas City. The Chiefs also benefited from a controversial fourth-down spot against the Buffalo Bills in the 2025 AFC Championship Game.

In other instances, Patrick Mahomes sparked a rules controversy by pretending to run out of bounds, and CBS instigated a collusion theory about the Chiefs thanks to a hot mic.

However, an examination of Kansas City’s penalty statistics cast doubt on whether the numbers actually support the conspiracy theories.
