26-year-old NFL wide receiver Kadarius Toney was arrested last week and charged with strangling a woman at a residence in Georgia. Toney last played in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns before being released on December 10th.

According to TMZ, Kadarius Toney allegedly put his hand around a woman’s throat and squeezed “with enough force to cause her to be unable to breathe.”

Arrest records also state that Toney left “red marks on her neck and cause[d] Petechial Hemorrhaging in her eyes.” He also allegedly took the woman’s phone from her during the attack in order to keep her from dialing 911.

After an arrest warrant was issued on Jan. 15, Kadarius Toney was eventually locked up in the Douglas County jail on Feb. 6 on one charge of aggravated assault-strangulation and one charge of obstructing/harassing 911 calls. Records show that he was no longer in custody on Feb. 7 after a judge set a bond of $25,000 for each count.

Toney was selected by the New York Giants in the first round (20th pick) of the 2021 NFL draft and signed a four-year contract worth $13.7 million. He was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs on October 27, 2022.

In Super Bowl LVII, Kadarius Toney set a Super Bowl record with a 65-yard punt return and caught a touchdown pass in the Chiefs’ 38–35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs went on to win the Super Bowl again the next season, but Toney was inactive for all four playoff games despite claiming to be healthy. The Chiefs declined his fifth-year option and released him before the 2024 season.

The former Florida Gator compiled 82 receptions for 760 yards and three touchdowns receiving, with 112 yards on 22 carries and a TD on the ground, in 33 games during his four-year NFL career.
