Kadarius Toney is not expected to play in the Super Bowl. According to Adam Schefter, he will be a healthy scratch after not being listed on the Kansas City Chiefs’ final injury report for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.

This concludes a wild saga surrounding the troubled wide receiver over the last few weeks.

Toney, who caught a touchdown in the Super Bowl last year, has not played since Week 15 when he deflected the ball right to a Patriots defender for an interception. It was actually the second time this season that he caused an interception with a drop.

Patrick Mahomes appeared to say “I can’t f—— stand him, man” after the turnover.

That was apparently the last straw for Andy Reid and the Kansas City coaching staff. Toney has not seen the field since.

He was ruled out for the AFC Championship due to a hip injury and personal reasons. His wife was giving birth to their first child.

Toney later went live on Instagram and accused the Chiefs of lying about his injury. It is virtually impossible to interpret his comments in any other way. They were directed toward the organization.

However, Reid made it very clear that Toney’s injury was not “made up.” The 65-year-old head coach said that the pass-catcher was “working through some things” but did not expand further.

Days after calling his team a bunch of liars, Toney returned to practice on the first Thursday of the two-week period prior to the Super Bowl. And then he made an outrageous excuse for his infamous Instagram video before claiming that his rant was actually directed at the Giants.

Kadarius Toney will not play Sunday.

Unless Schefter’s sources are wrong, Toney will be a healthy scratch. The team must have decided that it is better off without him on the field in any capacity.

Reid said “we’ll see” when asked on Tuesday whether Toney would play. He added that the third-year wide receiver had “been practicing, we’ll just see whether he’s up or not.”

It would appear as though he is not up!

Toney caught just 27 passes for 169 yards and a touchdown during the 2023/24 season. Between the deflected interceptions, and an offside penalty in a Dec. 11 loss to the Bills that negated a go-ahead touchdown, his presence on the gridiron has been largely detrimental.

Kansas City has decided to keep Kadarius Toney on the sidelines for Super Bowl LVIII.
