Kanye Udoh is leaving the Army football program. The star running back entered the transfer portal this offseason following a 1,000-yard campaign at West Point.
Udoh helped the Black Knights win 11 games and a conference title. Now, he’s moving onto a new home for 2025.
That news was surprising to some who weren’t familiar with Army’s transfer policy. For athletes looking to move on from the program, they must do so prior to the start of their junior years. Those that choose to stay are locked into service contracts with hefty exit fees.
Udoh just wrapped up his sophomore season, giving him the opportunity to leave before being signing on for military responsibility. He’s since landed at a new school.
Kanye Udoh did a complete 180 with his second school choice.
Udoh committed to Army in part because of the professional opportunities that a degree from the service academy can offer.
“What West Point can do for you after football, after you graduate, I mean, you go to West Point, that degree is very prestigious. It can really get you any opportunity that you really want.”

His priorities have since shifted. He announced a commitment to Arizona State on Saturday, a university that might represent the polar opposite of his previous home.
The Sun Devils are notorious for having a good time, ranking third on Barstool Sports’ list of party colleges in the US. Arizona State will offer a stark contrast to the strict daily schedule required at Army.
Kanye Udoh’s initial transfer announcement was a surprise to many. His ensuing commitment was even more shocking. After spending two productive seasons with the Black Knights, he’ll suit up for the Sun Devils next year. It will be a much different college experience for the star rusher.
