Kawhi Leonard has been with the San Antonio Spurs since 2011, and it seemed like they both had a pretty good thing going until things got ugly recently thanks to a year plagued with injuries that prove the organization isn’t a big fan of the “in sickness and in health” support clause that’s implied in most serious relationships.
Leonard was under contract to make $18 million this season so it would make sense that the Spurs wanted him back on the court for their playoff series against the Stephan Curry-less Golden State Warriors, which they ultimately lost in five games. However, Leonard has been cautious when it comes to his rehab approach, focusing more on his long-term health as opposed to the short-term needs of his squad— a decision that Gregg Popovich hasn’t been shy about passive-aggressively addressing.
Leonard still has two years remaining on his contract, but there’s been plenty of speculation he might be heading to a new team in the offseason if he and the Spurs can’t overcome their irreconcilable differences. However, there are plenty of fans in San Antonio who don’t want to see the youngest star on an aging roster go— including some at a local brewery that’s offered to give Leonard free pizza and beer for life if he stays in the city.
Freetail Brewing Co. posted a heartful message on Twitter— accented with a few artificial teardrops— to make their pitch.

Given his position on nutrition, I’m not sure if this will do much to swing Leonard’s decision, but it never hurts to try.
