Kevin Durant has been an advocate for marijuana use amongst NBA players for some time. In fact, KD met with Adam Silver to discuss having weed taken off the banned substance list a while back.

That interaction provided a hilarious story, which Durant told in a recent interview with CNBC and Boardroom.

The NBA All-Star set up a meeting with the commissioner to talk about the future of marijuana use league wide. Durant, who partakes himself, says that the majority of the NBA smokes pot recreationally.

He noted that the stigma associated with marijuana has died significantly considering it’s now legal in a number of US states. Durant spoke of the effects of weed, which he described as far from negative.

With that argument in mind, KD approached Adam Silver to discuss its removal from the NBA’s banned substance list.

Here’s how that conversation went.

“I just felt like it was becoming a thing around the country, around the world,” KD explained. “The stigma behind it wasn’t as negative as it was before. It doesn’t affect you in any negative way.”

Durant says that Silver agreed.

He was then asked, “So what did you tell Adam? How did you persuade him?”

Durant’s response was gold.

“Well, he smelled it when I walked in,” the superstar replied. “So, I didn’t really have to say much. He kind of understood where this was going… It’s the NBA, man. Everybody does it, to be honest. It’s like wine at this point.”

While Durant wouldn’t go as far as to call himself a pioneer of the plant, he has been a major part of push to legalize it nationwide. He’s invested in a number of cannabis-related businesses as he attempts to destigmatize marijuana use.

“I just enjoy the plant,” KD said of his talks with Adam Silver. Now, the rest of the NBA can, too.
