The Pittsburgh Steelers had a depressing 24-10 home loss to the lowly Arizona Cardinals on Sunday to significantly hurt their playoff chances. But, the biggest news out of Sunday may be the injury to their quarterback Kenny Pickett.

And, it seems that Kenny Pickett could be out an extended period of time, dealing a huge blow to the Steelers moving forward.

The news that he could be out for an extended period of time of was first reported by Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Later, it was reported that he will be getting surgery on Monday.

Here was the play he was injured on.

Pickett has struggled this year statistically. He has completed 62% of his passes for 2,070 yards and 6 touchdowns against 4 interceptions. Considering the team has played twelve games now, those are pretty putrid stats, and they’ve been one of the league’s worst offenses all year.

But, all he’s done in his career is find a way to win. Even after today’s loss, he’s 14-10 as a starter, an impressive mark considering he’s not an effective quarterback whatsoever.

In his absence, the team will likely turn to former Bears franchise quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who is in his second year in Pittsburgh. In two years, he has 1408 yards and 5 touchdowns to go against 7 interceptions for the Steelers. In his five starts last year before getting benched for Kenny Pickett, the team was 2-3.

Pittsburgh won’t have much turnaround time either, as they host the Patriots on Thursday Night Football this coming Thursday.
