Kevin Durant Shoots Down Idea Of Him Getting A Statue Due To Switching Teams

When Kevin Durant eventually brings an end to his storied NBA career, he’ll do so as a lock to one day end up in the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Durant is a two-time NBA Champion, two-time NBA Finals MVP, an NBA MVP, a 14-time NBA All-Star, and currently sits eighth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, with plenty of room to move up.

But despite all of those accomplishments, Durant says that he’s not deserving of a statue when his career is said and done.

“I highly, highly doubt I get a statue of me put anywhere for playing basketball,” Durant said on Thursday’s episode of Up and Adams. “It’s usually those guys that got the Hall of Fame career, with championships, you been with one city for a long time. That’s not the case for me.”

Kevin Durant Says That He Doesn’t Deserve A Statue Like Dwyane Wade

Durant’s comments come on the heels of Dwyane Wade suggesting that Durant, LeBron James, and Steph Curry should all be next in line for statues.

The Miami Heat recently presented Wade with a statue outside of their arena. Although the statue drew criticism for looking nothing like the former NBA superstar.

Durant said that his case is far different than that of Wade.

“See, Dwyane Wade’s a different case, man. He is Miami. He is the Heat. So it’s a different case with him. There’s (sp) very few players that get that type of love in a city like that.”

Durant makes a good point. He’s played for four teams across his illustrious NBA career, including three in the last six seasons. But he spent the first 10 years of his career with the Seattle Sonics/Oklahoma City Thunder franchise and won an MVP in Oklahoma City in 2014.

Maybe Durant’s movement costs him a statue. But it’s hard to say he doesn’t deserve one in OKC. And if he doesn’t then few players, if any, really do.
