College basketball season officially got underway on Monday and Providence head coach Kim English is already mocking Georgetown for not having any fan at its games. He got into it with a bunch of Hoyas on social media less than 12 hours into the first official day of practice.

These two teams will play twice in 2025 and the Big East rivalry is going to be even more bitter than it was a year ago!

The online banter started with a post from English about his team’s first day in the gym. It included a famous quote from Allen Iverson.

As someone was quick to point out in response to the post, Iverson played college basketball at Georgetown before his legendary NBA career with the 76ers, Grizzlies, Nuggets and Pistons. English claims that he was unaware of the connection prior to 2011.

Hoys fans immediately resorted to their most notorious jab. They love to poke fun at English’s tweet from 2018 about his desire to play at Georgetown.

Even though it is low-hanging fruit, it is rather funny. And it is even better fodder for the Hoyas because English took Ed Cooley’s job after Cooley left Providence for Georgetown.

The Friars’ head coach had the time for the trolls today. He fired right back at the Hoyas to remind them that nobody shows up to their games— especially when they aren’t winning, like they failed to do last year.

Pow pow! Shots fired!

This is the very first day of college basketball season. Kim English came out of the gates firing.

Providence will host Georgetown in Rhode Island on Jan. 25. The Friars will then travel south to D.C. on Feb. 19. Both teams should be better than they were a year ago so this early-season trolling only makes the rivalry even more fun!
