Kim Mulkey lawyered up ahead of what she expects to be a hit piece from the Washington Post. The head women’s basketball coach at LSU is prepared to sue the reporter and publication for defamation!

In the meantime, the focus is on March Madness.

Mulkey’s comments came less than 24 hours after rumors started to circle online. Sports Illustrated senior writer Pat Forde indicated that he heard “some buzz about a big Washington Post story in the works on LSU women’s hoops coach Kim Mulkey” on Friday afternoon.

No further information was provided.

It is unclear as to what the Washington Post’s story might detail, but Mulkey is one of the more controversial figures in college sports. She is not well liked by a large number of people for how she acts and thinks both on and off of the court— whether right or wrong. Thus, based on how this impending expose is being teased, it is sure to cast the four-time national champion in a poor light.

Kim Mulkey went scorched earth!

Mulkey got out in front of what is to come during a media session between her team’s First and Second Round games at the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. Her opening statement offered a scathing account of how things played out and what she expects to happen in the coming days.

She claims that the Washington Post’s story has been in the works for two years. The reporter, who Mulkey did not mention by name, supposedly pestered her for an interview that was not granted (for a reason) because she did not like a piece that he did on Brian Kelly in the past.

From there, the unnamed reporter allegedly contacted Mulkey’s former coaches and players under the guise of collaboration, among other sketchy practices.

The 61-year-old coach referred to the soon-to-be-released article as “one-sided” and “embellished” in an effort to “sell newspapers and feed the click machine.” In her opinion, it is exactly why people “don’t trust journalists and the media anymore” because people are tired of the “hatchet jobs.”

If the Washington Post publishes a false story about Mulkey, a legal battle will ensue. She “hired the best defamation law firm in the country” in case she has to sue.

And now we wait.

LSU will be back on the floor against Middle Tennessee at home on Sunday. The Tigers are not going to let the Washington Post derail their preparation or focus like Kim Mulkey believes it was intended to do.
