Smoker Kingfish Gets Annihilated By A Barracuda During A Red-Hot Bite In SW Florida

I have never missed my boat more than I have over the past few months. To be completely honest, I haven’t had a boat in almost 10 years and most of that time I was living in NYC and it didn’t matter because I’d only use it maybe a handful of times each year during trips back to Florida but, my God I could’ve really used the freedom of having a boat over the past two-plus months and getting to fish during any available downtime.

This isn’t about me though this is about us all sharing in an epic fishing day from BlacktipH in South Florida where they were just hauling in big Kingfish left and right. The Kingfish is probably my favorite pelagic species to catch. My first job as a kid/teen was as a first-mate on a charter fishing boat where the captain specialized in fishing for Kingfish so I’ve had a ton of experience with this species and loved every minute of it.

I think that’s also why I appreciate this clip so much. To see them hauling fish into the boat that quickly is wild. They also bring up a sizable hammerhead shark just for good measure. You love to see it.

Tarpon fishing season in Southwest Florida is just heating up. Boats are already catching fish in pretty good numbers from Anna Maria Island on down to Boca Grande. I’m in Sarasota/Siesta Key which is smack dab in the middle of this epic stretch of tarpon fishing grounds during this time of year and what I’m really saying here is if anyone in this are is out there and grabs some sick footage of catching tarpon or hammerheads going wild then send it my way!
