According to Kevin Durant, the 2026-27 Philadelphia 76ers starting lineup that features Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, LeBron James, and Joel Embiid is better than the one he was part of with the Golden State Warriors.
The main reasons for that difference: Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, who Durant feels were weak links relative to the Sixers’ lineup.
Unsurprisingly, neither Thompson nor Green took kindly to that insinuation, and they fired back at Durant over social media.
Kevin Durant Starts Beef With Klay Thompson And Draymond Green
Durant initially made the comments while speaking at a USA Basketball event over the weekend.
“The last time they put three 20-point scorers on a team, they said it was unfair, which was the [Warriors] team I was on,” Durant said. “[The 76ers] have got four 25-point scorers on this team.”
A fan then asked Durant on Instagram if he truly believed the 76ers are better. Durant explained that he was serious, because Thompson was “never a MVP candidate in nothing.”
Durant also noted that Green was a role player for the Warriors.

“Aye man u good?” Thompson responded on his Instagram story, tagging Durant before adding: “What u using my full government for??”
Green then took to Threads to chime in, asking if “Slim thought he was on his burner?” which refers to Durant by his nickname, The Slim Reaper.
All in all, you imagine the three will work through any beef. But Durant definitely threw some unnecesary shade at Thompson and Green, and it’s clear that neither was too happy about it.
