The Arizona Cardinals announced Wednesday morning that they would be bringing head coach Kliff Kingsbury back for the immediate future. The two sides came to terms on a deal that runs through 2027.
We have reached agreements on contract extensions with GM Steve Keim and Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury.
Each is now under contract with the team through the 2027 season.

Kingsbury helped lead the Cardinals to 11 wins last year and the No. 5 seed in the NFC Playoff standings. Arizona was one of three teams in the uber-competitive NFC West to find its way into the postseason but unfortunately lost to one of those division rivals in their opening matchup.
A disappointing 34-11 loss to the Rams ended their Super Bowl hopes, but it did leave something for the organization to build upon moving forward. The deal with Kingsbury solidifies his standing with the Cardinals after an offseason of contract discussions.
This news could also impact the negotiations of Arizona’s quarterback, Kyler Murray.
While Kingsbury did his job from the sidelines, it was Murray who was leading the team on the field. The third-year signal caller threw for more than 3,700 yards for a third straight season, while also adding 423 yards on the ground. In all, he accounted for 28 touchdowns on his way to a second consecutive Pro Bowl appearance.
Will Kingsbury’s Deal Impact Murray?
What’s interesting regarding the Kingsbury/Murray relationship is their long-standing ties. These ties date back to their days in college when Kingsbury was recruiting Murray out of the high school ranks.
The passer ultimately went to Texas A&M, and later to Oklahoma, but the two were never far apart with Kingsbury coaching at Texas Tech.
When Kingsbury was introduced as Arizona’s head coach in 2019, they were reunited with the Cardinals selecting Murray as their top overall pick in the draft.
Diving even further, the two share the same agent, Erik Burkhardt. That same agent released a lengthy statement to Arizona fans earlier this week to talk about Murray’s future.
With Burkhardt being able to get a deal done for Kingsbury, you can bet he’ll put the pressure on to bring Murray back as well.
With the news of Kingsbury’s extension breaking, fans took to social media as they turn their attention to Murray.
Quite the irony that Kliff and Kyler are represented by the same agent. https://t.co/2Onpd519U6

Would imagine if this one got done that increases the odds Kyler eventually gets done https://t.co/lf0UXmETge

If the Cardinals can bring Murray back, it should allow them to pick up right where they left off in 2021. If not, Kingsbury will be searching for quarterback help this offseason.
